To counter the onslaught of drug smuggling into the country from across the border, the Border Security Force proposes to make the surveillance foolproof by equipping its men with latest gadgets. Advanced electronic surveillance systems, which are to be set up at various places along the Punjab border, are already being tested.
Currently the surveillance is mainly manual, aided by thermal imaging cameras. The proposed electronic surveillance system will have advanced gadgets that will help the force to keep a close eye along the border.
BSF, IG (Punjab Frontier), Aditya Mishra, said, “Punjab has been chosen for the pilot project by the ministry of home affairs. Under this, advanced gadgets will be set up along the border to heighten vigil.”
Mishra said the force would get advanced cameras, radars and other latest survelliance gadgets. “Various companies are testing their gadgets. Once the process is complete, a comprehensive report on this will be sent to the union government, which will take the final call on this.”
“We do have thermal imaging cameras with us, but now we will have gadgets equipped with advanced technology. Currnelty, a jawan has to continuously keep his eyes glued to the fence, but once radars are there, it will automatically scan the movement. New system is going to simplify the things,” he added.
The force is likely to get gadgets which can also detect sounds. The force is also being given sophisticated weapons.
