A young girl's desire to reach foreign shores ended with rape, as the person whom she and her family had trusted to realise this dream allegedly exploited her on the pretext of sending her abroad.

A couple, identified as Jaswinderjit Singh and his wife Hardeep Kaur of Ajnala, were booked under Sections 376, 420, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the Ajnala police in connection with sexually exploiting the girl on the pretext of sending her abroad.

However, no arrests have been made so far.

Sources with police said the incident took place last year, but the case was registered on Sunday.

According to the complainant, the accused used to come to her house, as her mother had sold one acre of the family land through him.

The complainant alleged that the accused had offered to send her abroad and took Rs 1 lakh for the same from her family.

However, the victim alleged that the accused assaulted her sexually on the pretext of sending her abroad.
