The five arrested include the father and brother of the girl Kulwant Kaur.

Kaur and her husband Jagtar Singh, both residents of Phulewala village of Moga district, were allegedly kidnapped from Raikot, where the two had been living since their marriage about a year ago.

After kidnapping the young couple in a car, the accused murdered them in cold blood and later dumped their bodies in the canal on July 2, investigations carried out by the Raikot police, reveal.

When Jagtar's family came to know that the couple had gone missing, they informed the Raikot police, who later launched a search and recovered the bodies on Saturday.

Raikot police said that the couple, both neighbours in their village, had fallen in love after which they decided to get married against the wishes of the girl's family.
