The money will be spent on laying new roads and repairing the old ones, especially in the walled city, and augmenting the water-supply and sewerage networks.

Bolaria, along with district Shiromani Akali Dal (urban) president Upkar Singh Sandhu, said in a joint statement here on Wednesday that the deputy CM has already approved an investment of Rs 1,500 crore in city's mega projects to make it a world-class destination for tourists and pilgrims.

The leaders said the beautification of the surroundings of the Golden Temple was in progress. "Sukhbir Singh Badal has the vision and the will to develop the holy city," said Bolaria, adding that a new public transport system would be in place, for which the global tenders were being invited.
