“Fashion cannot stop nor can it ever die. If we are not creative and fail to be unique and voguish; tasting success in this world may remain a distant dream,” expressed a group of designers with whom HT interacted at the opening of a two-day lifestyle exhibition at Park Plaza hotel on Saturday.

Concerning young minds, who aspire to enter the world of designing, we posed a few questions to the designers who painted the portraits of their experience and the challenges that one can face. Interestingly, many of them hailed from different nooks of the country and had many years of experience.

Indore-based designer Reena Dhaneja maintained that those who wish to become designers should not forget that designing is a very competitive world. She elaborated by saying, “Although competition is everywhere, to survive in designing, despite cut throat competition, what matters the most is how we implement our ideas and how unique they are. To fashion students, I will say that replicating others will lead you nowhere by unfolding your own creativity can help boosting the talent.”

For Nagpur-based Payal Choithani having passion in designing is more important than thinking of formal education in designing.
“Someone has rightly said that you can take a horse to the water, but not make him drink. It is true that these days, many students are taking admission in fashion designing, but not all of them shine. I have no formal education, but I have still established myself well. There are many famous names too in designing who are successful only due to their passion.”

Regional designers Pankaj Thakur from Ludhiana added that every profession has certain challenges, but if career is chosen as per aptitude and interest, there may be no challenges at all.

Thakur also claimed that she designs clothes for Punjabi anchor Satinder Satti and various other celebrities, but she explained that it was her unique creations that helped her to get these opportunities. While Nivedita Sharma from Chandigarh echoed that apart from enthusiasm being positive, flexible and patient are the other core elements that can take one to the zenith of success.
