Crucial SGPC meet on separate panel for Haryana on Sunday

Amid the ongoing controversy regarding the demand for formation of a separate gurdwara management committee for Haryana, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar has called a meeting of its executive committee at Chandigarh on June 30. The SGPC has been opposing the separate body vehemently.

“The meeting has been called by the SGPC chief for a single agenda. It has been seen that certain conspiracies are done to weaken the SGPC and also challenge its authority. During the meeting detailed discussion will be done on this issue,” said SGPC spokesperson Daljit Singh Bedi.

Sikh leaders in Haryana are getting backing of the Congress government for a separate body. Given that this comes ahead of the Haryana assembly elections due in October, Punjab’s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which also controls the SGPC, has been terming it a political conspiracy.
