The administration suspended Naib Tehsildar JP Salwan who was the duty magistrate when the firing took place to control the situation on Thursday.

Other than this, in a complaint to the police, Gurcharanjit Singh father of the deceased has alleged that assistant sub-inspector Joginder Singh had allegedly shot dead his son. The police had already registered a case under section 302 against unknown persons after death of boy. No arrest has been made yet.

Officials sources described the situation as tense but under control. The administration will review the situation on Saturday before deciding whether to lift the curfew or not. An indefinite curfew was clamped in the district headquarter town after the firing which left one dead and another seriously injured.

Sensing trouble the police then swung into action and resorted to a lathi charge and threw tear gas shells to disperse the protesters assembled at the Gurdwara and also opened fire allegedly killing one youth and injuring another and thereafter curfew was clamped.

Meanwhile the government has ordered a magisterial inquiry to be conducted by Gurdaspur SDM Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu into the incident of firing by the police. The SDM has been asked to submit his report within a month.
