Calling for an independent and sovereign Punjab, the Dal Khalsa has said that the people of Punjab in general and Sikhs in particular can no longer be subjected to the ‘misrule of the Union and state governments’.

Marking the 50 years of formation of the Punjabi Suba, the Sikh hardliner group on Tuesday organised a conference at Pheruman village, the birthplace of Darshan Singh Pheruman who had sacrificed his life for the formation of the Punjabi Suba. In a resolution adopted at the meet, the Dal Khalsa said that socially, religiously, ideologically and culturally, Sikhs were a separate entity and they can only be free if Punjab was sovereign. The organisation released an eight-page booklet—‘Litany of 50 years of blood-soaked and struggling Punjab’—on the occasion.
