A Ludhiana woman has accused Dalbir Kaur of not being a real sister of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian convict who was killed in Pakistan's Kot Lakhpat Jail in 2013.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Baljinder said she has documents to prove her claim. She alleged that Swapandeep Kaur, the elder daughter of Sarabjit, who was given job of naib tehsildar on compassionate ground by the Punjab government, is not his real daughter and in reality is Dalbir's daughter.
Demanding a CBI probe in the case, Baljinder also showed documents of the educational certificates of Swapandeep Kaur in which her father's name has been mentioned as Baldev Singh with Dalbir as mother.
"Swapandeep is actually Dalbir's daughter and the later has fudged documents to get her daughter the job of naib tehsildar. Sarabjit had only one daughter Poonam Atwal who was given the gas agency by the government," claimed Baljinder, who demanded the DNA test of Swapandeep and Dalbir to match with Sarabjit's wife Sukhpreet Kaur.
Accompanied by another person Harbhajan Singh, who claimed him to be real younger brother of Sarabjit, the duo alleged that when Sarabjit was alive in Pakistan, Dalbir was in touch with them and used to visit their house in Ludhiana.
"Last time Sarabjit talked to me was when there was a dispute between Dalbir and Sukhpreet over a cheque of more than `1 lakh came as in form of funding for the family of my brother. Sarabjit had talked to me to ensure if Dalbir had taken that cheque or was it with her family. The police can even check the call records of those timings to ascertain our facts," said Harbhajan and Baljinder. They also claimed that the real name of his father was Mehnga Singh but Dalbir fudged all records to show Sarabjit as son of Sulakhan Singh, who is actual father of Dalbir as per records.
Local BJP leader MP Singh Goraya, who is assisting Baljinder and Harbhajan, also produced an affidavit signed by Baldev Singh, who claims to be husband of Dalbir.
In the affidavit, which is attested by executive magistrate Tarn Taran, Baldev, a resident of Mannan village of Tarn Taran district, claimed that Swapandeep was his daughter and she left Dalbir and Swapandeep in 2013 after death of Sarabjit.
"Dalbir is a very shrewd woman and she is not even daughter of Sulakhan Singh. In 2009-10, Dalbir even met Huriat leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani and she used to meet him in routine. So many times, I tried to convince Dalbir that she was doing wrong with Sarabjit's family but she did not mend her ways and ultimately I left her," states Baldev in the affidavit.
"Baldev at present is lodged in a jail in Uttarakhand in a case of fraud and for this he was blaming Dalbir too. He has appealed us to arrange for his bail so that he can come out and assist us in the fight," said the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, Dalbir said she was ready to face any probe in the case. "All this is the matter of money. Baljinder was nowhere when I fought tirelessly for my brother. As far certificates are concerned, since I had no child, when Swapandeep was born to Sarabjit, they gave their daughter to me. I never knew that this will become such a big issue now," she said.
Sarabjit's wife Sukhpreet Kaur, said Baljinder is lying on the issue and Swapandeep was her daughter.
