A number of preachers, ragis (gurbani musicians) and granthis (Sikh priests) associated with Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal on Monday raised questions over the ‘Sikh Rehat Maryada’ (Sikh code of ethics), which is being preached by Akal Takht Sahib and published by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) since decades.
In wake of the ongoing tussle between Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma and Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, following the attack on the latter, the old students of the seminary assembled at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj. Addressing a press conference, the sect leaders claimed that the ‘maryada’ was never approved by the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs or by the general house of the SGPC.
“By using the name of the Akal Takht, these people are misleading the kaum (community) to malign the image of various Sikh sects,” they said.
