Baljit Singh of Ludhiana is the man arrested. In a surprise raid at a plastic-making factory at Kaheru village near Dhuri in this district on Thursday, a team from the PSPCL had imposed a fine of Rs 1.95 crore for electricity theft on its owner.

"Based on secret input, Baljit was arrested from Rajpura," station house officer concerned Baljinder Singh confirmed. "The man accepted that he had tampered with the industrial-unit meter in Dhuri a few months ago by fitting a device that freezed reading. He had been using this trick for the past many years, and had tampered with the power meters of many industrial units.”

PSPCL executive engineer Daljit Singh Sidhu said the corporation already had served notice to the unit owners to pay up the fine. The PSPCL now will acertain the time for which electricity was stolen.
