DC appeals farmers to use happy seeder for wheat sowing

Deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind on Sunday made an appeal to the farmers of the district to use happy seeder, an agricultural implement, for wheat sowing to avoid pollution by burning paddy straw.The DC also inaugurated sowing of wheat using happy seeder in Sangrur district's Kinoi village.

Talking to the farmers, Thind said last year 32 machines were used to sow 2,000 acre of wheat in the district, but this year Sangrur has set a target of 40,000 acre using 371 machines.

Chief agriculture officer Rajinder Sohi said 15-20 kg of Urea should be used in per acre. This will also reduce sowing cost, he said.

Claiming that farmers were showing interest, he said the agriculture department would "easily achieve
the target".
