Every year, local shop owners and outsiders set up temporary shops on both sides of the road during the fair, which poses issues for commuters.

The ban orders are also applicable on setting up loudspeakers in the area within a 3-km radius of the main gurdwara in the city. However, the ban is not applicable on the gurdwara itself.

"If we do not take this step, every person will set up his own speakers which will hamper the purity of the occasion and spread noise pollution," said Sekhri. The ban will be applicable throughout the month of December.
