To review the law-and-order situation in the district, deputy commissioner Alaknanda Dayal held a meeting with police and administrative officials of the district on Thursday. The DC directed the police officials and sub-divisional magistrates of the district to take steps to check illegal sale of psychotropic drugs by chemists to check crime.
“I have directed the officials to put the red stamp on the licences of chemists found involved in selling habit-forming drugs without prescription. This way, the defaulters won't be able to purchase these drugs from the wholesalers. Rest of the responsibility lies on the police to stop smuggling of drugs by increasing vigilance,” she said while talking to HT.
“Drugs are responsible for spurt in crime in the district. A collective effort is required to put culprits behind the bars. The health department had sealed five chemist shops the previous year,” she added.
In the wake of ongoing board examinations, the DC also directed the police to check the noise pollution and book the violators.
She also directed the police officials to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic across the district. She urged the police and civic body officials to launch a joint drive against encroachments.
