A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Bambiha Bhai village under Baghapurana subdivision, 37 km from here, on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Baldev Singh, 36. Teerath Singh, a close relative of the deceased, said Baldev Singh had been under debt as he had taken loans from different banks as well as some private lenders.
"As a result, his entire agriculture land had been sold out during the last two years. A few months ago, Baldev Singh's wife had also left his house to live with her parents. The deceased's parents were also not living with him," said Teerath Singh. "He had been very much upset for the past five to six months," he said. Police officials said, "We are investigating the entire matter."
