Debt-ridden farmer ends life in Moga

A 32-year-old farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at his house at Burj-Duna village of Moga district on Saturday morning, police said.

A 32-year-old farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at his house at Burj-Duna village of Moga district on Saturday morning, police said.

Chand Singh, 32, was depressed as he had suffered losses due to less production of wheat,

Chand Singh, 32, was depressed as he had suffered losses due to less production of wheat, which prevented him from repaying a debt of Rs 4-5 lakh to banks and commission agents.

He is survived by wife Amandeep Kaur and a two-year-old daughter. Kaur said Chand was rushed to a nearby hospital but he was declared brought-dead.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sewak Singh of Badhni Kalan police station, who is investigating the case said Chand’s body was handed over to his family after its post-mortem.
