Tightening noose on defaulters, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said that defacing of public property would invite strict action.
Chairing a meeting of officials of the municipal corporation at the mini secretariat, Roojam ordered the officials to remove all illegal flexes, boards and hoardings from the main roundabouts, roads, public places and, most importantly, tourist sites.
"The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the Public Works Department (PWD) will also coordinate with the civic bodies and work together for beautification of the city so that Patiala can be developed as a tourist centre," Roojam said.
"The civic body should take legal action against those who are damaging public property by putting flexes, boards, banners and posters on government buildings, public places, bridges and on electricity poles," he added.
For this purpose, the district administration will also seek the help of banks, non-governmental and private organisations and the corporate sector.
Roojam directed the officials to work towards beautifying the Mall road, Circuit House road, Rajbaha road, 22 no fatak road and renovate the fountains of the historical Baradari gardens and the other fountains of the city.
He said in the first phase, the entry points of Baradari would be given a facelift, while in the second phase, unused and vacant places in the city would be identified and renovated accordingly.

Sub-divisional magistrate Gurpal Singh Chahal, joint commissioner Nazar Singh, RP Pandove, general manager (administration) of the PSPCL were present on the occasion.
