Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday appeared in a local court in connection with the defamation case filed by former revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia against him.
Sanjay, accompanied with a battery of lawyers, appeared in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Jagjit Singh, who deferred the hearing to August 23.
Majithia had filed the case in January 2016, accusing Sanjay and other AAP leaders of defaming him by dragging his name in the drug racket.
Interacting with the media later, Sanjay said, “I still stand on my statement. Now, it is up to chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh how he curbs the drug menace, which was rampant during the previous government.”
He said that during its first 100 days, the Congress government has failed to fulfil any of the promises it made to people in the run-up to the assembly elections.
Commenting on the murder of a pastor in Ludhiana, the AAP leader said, “Announcing rewards of lakhs of rupees for information on criminals after a murder will not solve the problem. The government must improve law and order situation in the state.”
He added, “The law and order in the state has completely collapsed. The crime rate has increased and police have proved to be inefficient. They had earlier failed to catch the culprits in the murder of Mata Chand Kaur as well.”
