Dehradun students wins Jasdeep Singh Malhotra award

Saluting the spirit of excellence in journalism, the department of journalism and mass communication of Guru Nanak Dev University Regional campus Ladhewali, on Monday, took an initiative of honouring a student every year for excellence in journalism during their media fest ‘Bonjour’.

Saluting the spirit of excellence in journalism, the department of journalism and mass communication of Guru Nanak Dev University Regional campus Ladhewali, on Monday, took an initiative of honouring a student every year for excellence in journalism during their media fest ‘Bonjour’.

This was the maiden award given to a student in memory of late Jasdeep Singh Malhotra, who was a principal correspondent with Hindustan Times, had died in a road accident last year. Kamlesh Singh Duggal, head, department of journalism and mass communication of the college, said, “We have decided to make it an annual affair and honour a student with the award. Malhotra was a known name in investigative journalism with sheer passion, dedication and the quintessential quality of being sensitive towards public issues.”

He added that his students trained under him, bore testimony to the fact that they would never fail. Udita Madan, student of MA (mass communication) from Himgiri Zee University, Dehradun, who bagged the award said, “I am blessed to receive the honour in the name of Malhotra sir who was a name to reckon with in journalism."
She got the award of excellence for performing extraordinarily in a news-reading contest, bagging second position.
