In yet another hit-and-run case, a reckless driver of a bus hit a motorcycle-borne couple at the flyover near Partap Nagar Chowk on Monday morning. The bus driver fled the spot along with the vehicle.
The incident left the woman dead on the spot while her husband suffered minor injuries.
The Simlapuri police have registered a case against unidentified bus driver. Passers-by have noted the number of the bus and intimated it to the police.
The victim has been identified as Harjinder Kaur, 42, of Delhi. She had come to Ludhiana along with her husband Charanjit Singh to visit their relatives. They have borrowed the motorcycle from their relatives to visit kith and kin living in the Pakhowal area.
According to Charanjit Singh, when they reached the flyover near Partap Chowk an overspeeding bus hit them from behind. As a result, both of them fell on the road. The bus driver ran over the vehicle on Harjinder's head.
Charanjit said, "I was yelling at the bus driver to stop as I stood up after being hit, but he did not hear me and instead increased the speed of the bus ignoring that my wife had fallen in front of the bus."

According to SHO of Simlapuri police station inspector Jaswinder Singh, we have initiated investigation to locate the accused.
Passers-by told the police that the bus had the registration number PB-32-DE-9855 which belongs to the Punjab Roadways.
He said the police would ask the Punjab Roadways about the bus and the driver.
Deceased's brother-in-law said his cousin Charanjit Singh ran a workshop in Delhi. Charanjit and Harjinder have a son and a daughter. The couple was supposed to return to Delhi by train on Monday.
This is the second hit-and-run case in past four days. An overspeeding car had hit two girls riding a scooter in Model Town Extension area, killing one of the girls.
