During their two-day inspection, the health department teams found aedes larvae breeding at Block J of BRS Nagar, Aman Nagar, Islam Ganj, Guru Nanak Pura, Railway Colony, Jammu Colony, Field Ganj, Saroop Nagar, Salem Tabri, New Shimla Puri and Shiv Puri.

However, the larvae were destroyed by the teams using Temephos spray, said Dr Anil Verma, district epidemiologist, adding that the teams also sensitsed residents on dengue prevention and distributed pamphlets among them.

The Ludhiana municipal corporation was informed about the situation to carry out a survey and intensive fogging, so that the dengue cases could be prevented timely, added Dr Verma.
The doctor said the aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant water; thus to prevent collection of water, people should not keep any containers, tyres, pots or other empty objects on rooftops of their houses.
