District education officer (DEO), secondary education, Satinder Bir Singh has assigned duties to school heads, principals and staff of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) for the celebration of Republic Day in the district.

The Republic Day celebration would be held at Guru Nanak Dev Stadium here under the jurisdiction of deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat, where cabinet minister Anil Joshi would be the chief guest, said the DEO.

“Every year nearly 80% participations — both as controllers and spectators — are from the district education authorities, which includes PSEB staff, principals and school heads,” said the DEO.

“Initially, the system was haphazard, but now there will be staff and students of government schools from 15 blocks at the venue, which would be supervised by the principals and school heads to whom the duty has been assigned. There are 2,200 students participating in gidda, bhangra, band, PT show, etc and 6,500 students would be spectators.”

The website would be a platform for the schools and the educational authorities to interact with each other on various issues, while the students can log in to the website to update themselves with the events and information posted and updated regularly on the website.

“Earlier, the website supported one-way communication system, but now each school has been provided an user ID and a password, which will keep the communication between schools and the authorities confidential,” said the DEO.
