The dera head was shot at by two unidentified men at Barchuhi village in Bhogpur town near here late Saturday evening succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The victim, Pritam Singh, has considerable following in the area.
As per reports, two unidentified youths reached the dera on a bike and told Pritam Singh that they were his followers and wanted to discuss something important in private.
Pritam took them to a room on the fourth floor of the building, where the youths shot him. The accused also took along with them the CCTV camera and recorder installed in the room.
Police said that nobody had seen the accused entering the dera. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
Jalandhar SSP Harmohan Singh Sandhu said, “Some residents have seen the assailants and a CCTV camera installed near the dera has captured them. We will collect the footage in the morning,” he said.
The body has been taken to the civil hospital for post mortem.
