The walls of various colleges in the city have been plastered with self-styled 'presidents' claiming the student community's support. However, inquiries show that outsiders manage to forcibly enter a college and declare their favourite student as the college president.

Group clashes between outsiders has become a regular feature in these colleges. Recently, one such clash was reported outside the GGN Khalsa College. However, no action has been taken.

Students are fearful of such clashes and are demanding a ban on the entry of outsiders to colleges.

A student of a college in nearby village said: "A group of outsiders along accompanied by 3-4 college students entered the college. The group started pasting posters on college walls. They were armed with swords and sluggers."

Ajay, a college student, said, "When elections have been banned. Why this fight over posters. This nonsense should not be allowed. Outsiders also make cheap comments on girls."

Another student Gagandeep said: "Strict action should be taken against outsiders entering colleges. This trend of self-styled presidents is just a sham. Why can't we be allowed to study in peace."

Arya College principal HR Saini said: " Elections have been banned. We will not allow anyone to spoil the atmosphere of the college."
