Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state government had created an industry-friendly environment in the state, despite what he described as step-motherly treatment meted out by the Centre.
Addressing a state-level function on Vishwakarma Day at Sri Guru Nanak Bhawan here, he claimed that the Centre had always ignored Punjab's legitimate rights and granted industrial tax concessions to neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. “Punjab had contributed a lot to the country's freedom struggle. Post-Independence, it made the country self sufficient in food production. However, successive Congress governments at the Centre have ignored the interests of the state,” he claimed.
“Better law and order, peace, top-quality infrastructure, improved power scenario and above all an investment-friendly industrial policy of the state government are some of the reasons that have pushed Punjab amongst the top-investment destinations in the country,” he said. “Efforts of the SAD-BJP government would generate employment opportunities for the youth in coming times.”
Later in the function, the CM felicitated technocrats and daily-wagers.
Badal also appealed to the people, especially Punjab's youth, to attain professional skills and improve employment opportunities for themselves.
He honoured eminent Industrialists from Ludhiana, including Amarjit Singh, Surinder Singh, Baldev Singh, Ranjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh Virdi, Lallit Kochar, Charanjit Singh Vihawkarama, Ranjot Singh and Inder Singh Sohal.
Former cabinet minister Hira Singh Gabhria, Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, forest minister Chuni Lal Bhagat and Punjab Planning Board vice-chairman Prof Rajinder Bhandari also attended the function.
