The party leaders in the district seem to be divided in two groups. One group, comprising senior Akali leaders, has been alleging unfair treatment at the hands of Akali leader Jagteshwar Singh Majithia, son-in-law of former MLA late Jatinder Singh Kariha. Majithia has been consistently holding meetings and conferences to garner support of people ahead of visit of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on October 5.

Talking to Hindustan Times, senior SAD leaders on condition of anonymity, said that they had already complained against the unfair treatment to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Senior Akali leader Sucha Singh said that party was missing late Jatinder Singh Kariha, who would take all the party workers along to strengthen the party. "Still, I don't have any problem with anyone in the party," he said.

He said that since Satinder Kaur Kariha is not available in the district, it might be reason that party leaders were singing different tunes in absence of a mentor.

All efforts to contact Jagteshwar Majithia went futile as his mobile phone was switched off.

On September 3, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had said that Nawanshahr assembly seat, which the SAD had represented thrice, went to the Congress because of the factionalism in the SAD.

It is pertinent to mention here that Satinder Kaur Kariha faced a defeat from Congress candidate Gur Iqbal Kaur as she was not supported by a section of SAD unit.
