Former Himachal chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday asked party workers to remain in constant touch with the masses.

Addressing party workers in Bhota Kaswa, he said: “That the party's membership drive is evoking a huge response is an indication of the fact the state's residents are happy with the BJP and its leaders despite being in the opposition in state. People know who their friend is and that's why they've opted to become members of the party in large numbers.

The BJP has done a lot for the people and that helped it to get an overwhelming response during its membership drive.”

Dhumal said the Congress party led government in the state was adopting an “anti people stance and had no love for the masses.” “Development has come to a near standstill and the CM and other ministers are busy in foundation stone laying ceremonies for projects for which no budget provisions have been made. It's nothing but a mockery.”

Talking about the failure of the public distribution programme in the state, he said “it's not understood why salt had disappeared from the list of the system not to speak of other items like pulses and edible oils.”

Dhumal hit out at the state government for “trying to hush up” the Shimla violence incident and “attempting to clear” Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's son in the case. He also reiterated his demand for a CBI inquiry into the incident and punishment of those found guilty.
