As a video of a Punjab traffic police cop stopping a bus of the Orbit aviation company, owned by the ruling Badal family, by sitting in front of the bus on a road at Rampura Phul, has gone viral on the internet, the cop has denied of deliberately doing so saying that it happened as he suffered cramp in his foot and he had to sit on the road.
Head constable Harvinder Das, a resident of Mandi Kalan village, deployed with the traffic police at Rampura Phul city police station, said as he suffered cramp in the foot, he lost balance and sat on the road immediately and got up only after feeling relaxed.
“The bus got stuck in the traffic as the railway crossing in Rampura Phul was closed for the passage of a train. But, it moved ahead breaking the line. I tried to stop the bus from going ahead. As I came in front of it, I suffered cramp in the foot, that forced me to sit on the road,” said Das.
The video of Das sitting in front of the moving Mercedes Benz bus (PB 03 5700) to make the driver to stop the bus at Rampura Phul railway crossing has gone viral on the social media.
According to the cop, the incident took place on January 28 at about 3.50 pm when the bus was plying towards Bathinda from Chandigarh. There have been reports that the cop, who has earned a lot of praise for showing courage to stop the bus of the company of the ruling family, would be honoured for his act by the district police.

{{/usCountry}}The buses of transport firms owned by the Badal family and Akali leaders in Punjab have been in the limelight for the past several months for one or the other wrong reason. The drivers of these buses have been accused of high-headedness and not obeying traffic rules. A 13-year-old girl had died after she was allegedly molested and thrown off the moving bus in April last year in Moga.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Swapan Sharma said that the stopping of the bus by the cop was just a routine work, so there was no plan to honour him. When told that the video of the incident, praising the cop, has gone viral, he said they couldn’t decide merely on the basis of videos.
