According to fire wing officials, there has been a considerable decrease in fire incidents before the onset of monsoon as there is moisture in air which prevents the fire from spreading.

The searing heat that was observed for the past two months had resulted in many fire incidents across the city, keeping fire wing officials on their toes.

During the past two months there have been nearly 150 small and big fire incidents that caused loss worth crores. Most of the fire incidents took place at factories on the outskirts of the city causing damage to the properties.

“We observe every year that there is a significant fall in the fire incidents across the city when monsoon is about to reach the state. However, the fire wing is always ready for any untoward incident,” said Bhupinder Singh, assistant divisional fire officer (ADFO).

The operator at 101, the emergency number for the fire wing, said they used to receive phone calls about fire incidents after every three to four hours during the past two months. “The climate does have an effect on the fire incidents. The number of fire incidents has dipped during the past one week with the decrease in temperature,” he said.
