Addressing a gathering during a medical camp, Tewari said, “It was always the prerogative of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. She was already having discussions with senior leaders of the state and a decision is expected soon.”

Tewari also sought a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the reports of drug money being laundered through real estate investments in Punjab. He suggested that an application should also be moved in the Supreme Court, which is already monitoring the investigations into the black money.

He expressed grave concern over the fast-spreading menace of drug consumption and peddling in the state. Tewari said, “The drug trade in Punjab was quite huge and the money was reportedly being invested in the real estate, which needs to be probed.” The former Union minister observed that till the time, the nexus between the drug suppliers and the real estate developers is not smashed, the drug trade and consumption will continue to flourish in Punjab with due patronage from the government.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Gurmail Pehalwan, councillors Balkar Singh Sandhu, Harjinder Lali, Varinder Sehgal, Sunny Kainth, Vicky Pehalwan, Jaimal Singh, Sunil Datt, Dr Satish Thamman and others.
