Dismissed ASI booked for abetment to suicide

Dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Naseeb Singh was on Friday booked for abetting the suicide of a gangrape victim.The 18-year-old victim had ended her life on Wednesday night at Badshahpur village in Patran sub-division of Patiala district. In her suicide note, she had named the rapists and also accused certain cops of harassing her.

Dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Naseeb Singh was on Friday booked for abetting the suicide of a gangrape victim.

The 18-year-old victim had ended her life on Wednesday night at Badshahpur village in Patran sub-division of Patiala district. In her suicide note, she had named the rapists and also accused certain cops of harassing her.

On the basis of the note, Naseeb, who was posted at the Badshahpur police post, was booked under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday constituted a three-member high level to probe the case. Headed by additional director general of police (ADGP, crime) Jaswinder Singh, the team includes inspector general (IG, crime) Shashi Prabha Diwedi and IG (zonal), Patiala, Paramjeet Singh Gill.

Later, the team members visited the village and took statements of the family members and other residents.

The team would also look into the aspect of dereliction of duty by any officer right up to the level of senior superintendent of police (SSP) in the entire incident, a spokesperson for the chief minister's office here said.
