The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed a change in design of some stations that were to be built on the two corridors of the Metro Rail system across the city. A DMRC team is currently conducting a survey in the city.
On a request from the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), the DMRC had prepared a
Detailed Project Report (DPR) in 2007.
However, due to haphazard construction along the proposed East-West and North-South corridor of the metro system since then, the DMRC has now proposed a change in design of the metro stations that would be built on way. There has been a lot of construction on the proposed routes. Apparently, this has emerged as a major problem to the DMRC as well as the municipal corporation that is assisting the DMRC in the survey.
The construction of flyovers in the city after 2007 may also cause restrictions in the design of the metro route that was proposed in 2007.
"There has been a lot of construction in Ludhiana after 2007 when the first DPR was prepared by the DMRC. Due to this, a fresh survey is being going on for the past many days to assess the change on ground situation" said municipal commissioner RK Verma.
DMRC assistant general manager RG Sharma has been conducting the survey for nearly a month now.
RK Verma said: "There are areas where the pillars of flyovers have been erected after 2007. However, we would not change the alignment of the metro and other measures would be taken."
The DMRC report has proposed two corridors that include 16-km East-West and 13-km North South.
DMRC assistant general manager RG Sharma has been conducting the survey for nearly a month now.

The DMRC report has proposed two corridors that include 16-km East-West and 13-km North South.
The estimated cost of the project was Rs 10,300 crore in 2007, which has now increased manifold. The Punjab government is supposed to provide Rs 2,000 crore and the same amount would be provided by the central government.
The bidder, who bags the project, would spend the rest of the amount. DMRC is the consultant agency in the construction of the metro rail in Ludhiana.
