Dog owners showcase their pets in annual dog show

As many 270 dogs participated on Sunday in the annual dog show organised by the Kohinoor Kennel Club at Lyallpur Khalsa School here.
Breeds of terrier dogs, hounds, utility group, gundogs, working dogs and toy dogs were part of the show.
Dog lovers from across the country had come to showcase the skills and health of their pets.
Dogs were adjudged in different rounds, including the breed round, where breed purity of dogs was tested followed by a group contest for the select dogs followed by the final line-up. Judges for the event were Roberto Tesoro from the Philippines and Luo Chikuo from Taiwan.
Dogs of rare breeds like borzoi (Russian wolfhound), pinscher, English Mastiffs, Dachshund, Chihuahua, Fox Terrier, Beagles, Bullterrier, Husky, Dogue De Bordeaux participated in the show.
Five to six dogs were made to run in two rings to check their fitness.
Manjot Singh from Timberwal village in Malerkotla, a proud owner of Spitz which won the best breed, said, "I brought my dog for the second time. It feels great to see our pets participating on the show."
Australia-based NRI Abjinder Sangha, another dog lover, said it was a great platform to learn about the upkeep of pets.
Gaurav Hoon, a proud owner of Rottweiler, said, "Seeing people with their pets here is great learning. Knowing about the right kind of diet for the good health of pets makes it an enriching experience. Dogs are my only passion. I have nine dogs at home."
Another fascinating dog breed owned by Kamal Kishore, from Piplanwala in Hoshiarpur was Russian bullterrier.
Mayank Joshi from Amritsar won the first and second prize in group category and best of breed for his American Staffordshire terrier.
The overall best dog award was won by Gurgaon-based Sanjay Kapoor for his Great Dane by one judge and German Shepherd owned by Harchand Singh from Patiala by the other judge.
