Little did Nitish Prabhakar, a student of Kurali International Public School, know that before his Class 10 exam, life will test him in the most brutal way possible — leave him without parents. Nitish’s parents — Dr Narinder Parbhakar and his wife Radha Parbhakar both residents of Kurali — were killed after an unidentified vehicle hit them while they were on their morning walk near Bann Majra village on February 1. Now, the proud scorer of a perfect CGPA 10, Nitish, who shifted with his aunt in Sector 38, says his performance is a tribute to his parents.
“My father wanted to see me as a doctor and I will strive to fulfil his dream,” said Nitish, adding that he studied 6-8 hours a day. He wants to study Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
Paralysed lower limb could not stop her march to CGPA 8
In a case of victory of mind over matter, Gurmehar Chechi, a student of Manav Mangal Smart School, Phase 10, did not allow her paralysed lower limb to stop her progress in life. A CGPA 8 holder, Gurmehar uses a walker in school and takes part in all activities. “English is my favourite subject and it was the constant support from my family that kept me going,” said Gurmehar who has prosthetic limbs.
“I was never given any special treatment by family and that has been my biggest strength. I even use the school bus,” added Gurmehar. The eldest of three siblings, she celebrates her score by tucking into home-cooked rajmah-chawal.
