Dowry death: Deceased’s parents ‘under pressure’
More than one month after 21-year-old Upinder Kaur was allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws for not fulfilling their dowry need, her parents has alleged that certain SAD leaders along with police and district administration officials are pressurising them to reach a compromise to “settle the case” in which SAD sarpanch is one of the accused.

Her parents also threatened to sit on a hunger strike for indefinite period from May 5 onwards in case the police failed to arrest the remaining accused. The police had already arrested her father-in-law and SAD sarpanch from Deelwal, Amrik Singh and her husband Gurwinder Singh few days after the incident.
“We have been approached by leaders, while police officers have been pressurising us to arrive at a compromise with the accused sarpanch and his family,” Jasbir Singh, father of the deceased alleged.
