In most of the cases, the police seized sedatives pills and capsules. Nearly 7300 sedative pills, 47 grams of smack, 201 capsules, 5 kg poppy husk and 250 gm drug powder were seized on May20. It was learnt that the medical drugs were being misused and most of the addicts were procuring these drugs from various chemists.

The police sources claimed that the drive was initiated immediately after the elections as during the election campaign the drug issue took a centrestage and the ruling government was blamed for increase in use of drugs in the state.

The sources further added that drive initiated immediately after the elections, itself indicated that the ruling government had taken measures to curb the drug menace in the state.

The SSP said that they were also trying to find out sources of the drugs besides investigating how the medical drugs were being misused.

The police will not only focus on their arrest but would also try to rehabilitate the addicts after identifying them.

He further added that the department would tie up with de-addition centres so that addicts could be rehabilitated.
