Police are searching for two men accused of carjacking and kidnapping a Toyota Fortuner’s driver at gunpoint from outside Sona Grand marriage hall on Ferozepur Road. The car driver was later released at Chuhar Chak in Moga district.
The incident comes barely three days after the Jamalpur police arrested a carjacker after he hit the stolen car into an auto rickshaw with its 80-year-old owner still inside.
In his complaint, Saurabh Jain, a resident of Aggar Nagar, said he visited the marriage hall to attend an event on Monday. His driver, Balraj Singh, a resident of Amritsar, instead of parking the vehicle within the marriage hall complex, parked it on the main road.
Balraj told the police that while he waiting in the car, two armed men opened the car door while brandishing a pistol towards him. They forcibly entered the vehicle taking him hostage and snatched his mobile phone and purse. They then drove the SUV towards Moga, and released him unhurt on reaching Chuhar Chak, he alleged.
Surjit Singh, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ludhiana Rural, said as the carjackers released Balraj unhurt, his involvement had not been ruled out, and they were trying to ascertain his statements, adding that efforts were on to trace the stolen vehicle.
