Driver hatches conspiracy to rob hosiery owner, held

With the arrest of the driver of a hosiery owner and his four accomplices, police claimed to have solved an attempt to robbery case.

With the arrest of the driver of a hosiery owner and his four accomplices, police claimed to have solved an attempt to robbery case.

However, two more accused were still at large, said police, adding that they tried to rob the hosiery owner at his unit in Bal Singh Nagar of Salem Tabri area.

According to police commissioner Paramjit Singh Gill, Gurmeet Singh of Jammu Colony, the driver of hosiery owner Manmohan Singh, was the brainchild behind the crime.

The other accused have been identified by police as arrested in this connection are Jaswinder Singh, Satpal Singh, Daljit Singh and Sukhchain Singh, while Pargat Singh and Angrez Singh are at large. The duo is wanted to the Shahjahanpur police of Uttar Pradesh.

Interestingly, Satpal, Daljit and Sukhchain are priests in a shrine at Jhande village of Ludhiana.

Sources with police said Gurmeet had hatched a conspiracy along with Jaswinder, who involved five others to execute the crime. Daljit, Sukhchain and Pargat entered the hosiery factory while others waited for them outside for backup, sources said.

The Salem Tabri police have registered a case in this connection and initiated investigation.The police commissioner said more information was expected after questioning of Jaswinder, who possess criminal background.
