Members of the Driver Union and the Technical Workshop Union protested on Wednesday, alleging that the municipal corporation was negligent towards providing them with the necessary tools; spare parts etc to keep the vehicles used by them and the officials in workable condition.

Joginder Pal, a protester and a union member, claimed that most vehicles with the MC were from the ‘medieval’ age and not fit for plying, but there was no move to replace them. “Many vehicles just remain parked in the workshop with one or the other part missing from it, making it unfit for use,” he added.

Staff at the health department workshop later joined the protesters.

Satish Kumar, a union member, claimed the MC was not even providing staff the most primitive of equipment to keep the city clean and making PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign a success would remain only a dream in such a situation.
