A Dussehra marked by its usual gaiety and fervour was punctuated by a poignant moment. Punjab governor and UT administrator VP Singh Badnore along with local member of parliament Kirron Kher and David Lelliott, order of British empire, British deputy high commissioner, paid floral tributes to martyrs of the September 18 Uri at the celebrations in Sector 17 Parade Ground.

The governor also went to Sector 46 celebrations organised by Shri Sanatan Dharam Dussehra Committee, who also dedicated the festival celebration to the martyrs. The committee burnt the tallest Ravana effigy at 85-ft in Sector 46.
CURIOUS FOREIGNERS
A reasonably large number of foreigners were seen at various Dussehra celebration spots in the city. Curious to understand the significance of the festival, Jim, 35 and his partner Irene, 30, who were visiting the city to attend his sister’s wedding, ensured that they came well before time at Sector 17 to interact with Ramlila artistes. “The concept of victory of good over evil in inspiring,” Jim said.

Traffic movement was the worst-hit in Sectors 17, 19, 20, 22, 26, 29, 34, 40, 41, 45, 47 and nearby colonies. Manimajra, Hallomajra, Dadu Majra, Mauli Jagran, Maloya and Bapu Dham saw jams due to pedestrians.
IN SAS NAGAR, EFFIGY OF TERRORISTS BURNT
SAS NAGAR: At the Phase-8 Dussehra celebration, organisers said they burnt the effigy of terrorists in addition to the statues of Ravana (51-ft), Meghnad and Kumbhkaran (41-ft each). The event at this ground has been for running for 39 years and SAS Nagar deputy commissioner DS Mangat was the chief guest at the event. SAS Nagar Dussehra committee president Madhu Bhushan and Congress MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu was also present . The festival was celebrated at 11 other places.
