In a development in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket case, the enforcement directorate (ED) on Monday slapped fourth notice on Damanvir Singh, son of former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, asking him to appear before the investigating agency on June 13.
Since Damanvir has not responded to three earlier notices of the ED on different pleas, the investigating agency, in an embarrassment to Phillaur, pasted the notice at the main gate of the former minister’s house, 1063, Urban Estate, Phase 1, in Jalandhar this time. The third notice was issued on May 22.
The latest notice issued by ED assistant director Niranjan Singh reads, “In exercise of powers conferred upon me under Section (2) and sub-section (3) of Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, I require Damanvir Singh to appear before me in person.”
Damanvir’s name cropped up for the first time in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket in February during the latter’s interrogation by the ED. As per Bhola’s disclosure to the central agency, Damanvir was allegedly involved in the drug trade and had introduced Delhi-based smuggler Varinder Raja to Chunni Lal Gaba, a businessman who owns a cold store in Goraya and a drug unit in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).
As per notice, Damanvir has been asked to appear before the ED with his passport, details of immoveable property in his and his family’s name, copies of the Income Tax returns for the past five years, details of all bank accounts of his and the family.

{{/usCountry}}Sources in the ED said the agency is likely to take possession of Damanvir’s passport. The ED is also likely to issue a notice to Chunni Lal Gaba and his son Gurbesh Gaba, Goraya based businessmen who have also been allegedly named by Bhola in the drug racket.
