Eight ex-students of Akal Academy booked for ragging Sangrur student

Rajgarh Police have booked eight ex-students (the institute expelled them after receiving a complaint) at the academy under the provisions of the state law that prohibits ragging and other Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Saturday.

More than a month after a Class-9 student from Sangrur district in Punjab was reportedly ragged on the hostel premises of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, on July 24, Rajgarh Police have booked eight ex-students (the institute expelled them after receiving a complaint) at the academy under the provisions of the state law that prohibits ragging and other Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Saturday.

After its preliminary investigation, the police have revealed that the victim Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Sangrur district of Punjab, was allegedly tortured and beaten by senior students Ayush Gupta, Sarvjeet Singh, Balkar singh, Yash Gautam, Vikram Partap, Sukhpreet Singh, Amareet Singh and Baljeet Singh inside the premises of the school on July 24. He had alleged that he was thrashed and mentally harassed under the pretext of ragging.

After the incident, Sanjay was brought back home by parents and his father subsequently reported the matter to the Himachal DGP, and finally the police acted.

Academy expelled accused students

Source said that the academy had terminated the accused students 'as a punishment' and did not inform the police. Rajgarh DSP Yogesh Rolta said the eight accused had been booked and he had even visited the academy campus on Saturday. "The accused students were expelled from the academy," he said.
