The elected student body of the varsity, SCA, had knocked the doors of the EC after HPU vice-chancellor ADN Bajpai dissolved it on April 25.

Chief electoral officer (CEO) Narender Chauhan told HT that a complaint was referred to the state election commission through the Election Commission of India (ECI). “Now, we will soon ask HPU to explain the reason behind dissolving the SCA,” said Chauhan.

Earlier on April 28, three days later the HPU dissolved the SCA, the student body filed a complaint with the ECI. In its complaint, SCA general secretary Piyush Sewal accused Bajpai and dean students’ welfare SS Chauhan of illegally dissolving the elected student body at the behest of the ruling party.

“The university authorities have dissolved the elected students body of HPU under a political vendetta because it had appealed the student community to vote against the Congress for its policies are anti-student,” said Sewal in a complaint letter to chief election commissioner VS Sampat.

Sewal told HT that Bajpai had never let SCA to complete its term in his tenure of tree year. In 2012, the V-C delayed the oath of SCA by 9 months, while in 2013, the V-C dissolved SCA a few months before election and this year also SCA was dissolved on “irrelevant” reasons.

HPU authorities said SCA was dissolved because of the violence on the campus.
