Eyeing 2017 assembly elections, the Parkash Singh Badal-led SAD-BJP government sanctioned Rs 416 crore for SAS Nagar. The funds will be used in next one year for strengthening infrastructure, including rehabilitation of storm drainage system and roads.
“The government has sanctioned Rs 416 crore for carrying out development works in SAS Nagar with special focus on providing civic amenities,” SAS Nagar municipal corporation (MC) commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta.
Of the total grant, Rs 50.78 crore will be spend on the rehabilitation of the 40-year-old storm water drainage and sewerage system in the town. Under the project, the main outfall sewer line will be rehabilitated by providing GRP lining (highly resistant to corrosive substance) from Phase 5 to Phase 9. Even the main storm line would be rehabilitated by providing cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining from Sector 70 to box-type culvert drain at Sector 76.
An amount of Rs 131 crore will be spend on the construction of a sewerage treatment plant of five million gallon per day (MGD) capacity for tertiary treatment of sewerage and providing distribution network for supply of tertiary treated waste water to various parts.
Besides, the MC will spend Rs 26.18 crore on augmentation of water supply. Two deep bore wells would be installed in Phase 3B2 and one deep tubewell at Mohali village for improving water supply. Even the water boosting system of Phase 10 will be replaced.

{{/usCountry}}The MC will also spend Rs 167 crore on widening of roads. The civic body will widen road of Industrial Area in Phases 1,2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8B and 9. An additional Rs 10 crore will be spend on the strengthening existing roads.
Another Rs 30 crore will be spend on streetlights. The MC will spend Rs 1 crore on solid waste management. It will spend the amount on segregation plant and on machinery for solid waste management.
