In his complaint to the police, Naresh alleged the mishap occurred due to negligence of factory owners Pankaj and Anand. Naresh alleged that the factory had no proper emergency exit that led to Suraj getting trapped in the flames and being charred to death.

According to Sundar Nagar in-charge ASI Davinder Sharma the accused were at large but would be arrested soon. The fire that broke out at Advaits International took around 12 hours and 35 fire tenders to be doused.

A total of six labourers were present on the factory premises when the fire broke out. While five of them managed to escape through the skylight, Suraj was trapped in the inferno.

Gagandeep Singh, executive magistrate, who has been deputed on the spot to keep a vigil on the operation by district administration, said the surviving labourers told him that the flames had blocked the exit point of the factory. However, they rushed to the upper storey and managed to jump out of the skylight.

Naresh told HT that Suraj was working with the factory for the past one year.

"I come to know about the incident on Saturday evening. Suraj was killed due to the factory owners' negligence and they should be punished for it," said Naresh.
