Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal gave a clarion call to his party workers to “gherao” police stations where “false” cases have been registered against SAD workers.
Addressing a party rally under “Jabar Virodhi Lehar” at Babbehali, 5km from Gurdaspur on Tuesday, Sukhbir said the Congress government led by Captain Amarinder Singh has stooped low in perpetrating atrocities on SAD workers and other non-Congress workers that even an 85-year-old person and a 16-year-old teen were put in jail on fake cases in Muktsar.
He said the Amarinder government had withdrawn all welfare schemes initiated by the previous Parkash Singh Badal government, including the atta-dal, shagun,free power up to 200 units to the SCs and BCs and free education to the school students.
Govt implicating SAD workers: Badal
Former chief minister and SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday accused the Congress-led government in Punjab of implicating Akali workers in false cases and said the party “will not allow any injustice” to happen to its workers. Hitting out at the Amarinder Singh-led dispensation, he alleged that the Congress government has failed to honour even a single promise it had made to the voters ahead of the assembly polls.
“I met (Akali) workers at a meeting here to listen to their grievances. A lot of our workers are being implicated in false cases by the state government. Today, I met a dozen such workers here who have been wrongly booked by the police,” Badal said. “We will ask officials concerned if any excesses and injustices have been done with our workers. We have formed a committee of advocates and will provide legal help to party workers whenever the need arises,” the former CM, adding, “We will not allow any injustice with our workers.”
