Fatehgarh Sahib senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Randhawa has moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, challenging the state government’s decision to withdraw his extension orders. The petitioner has submitted that extension of service was withdrawn without any “justified reason” and hence the government decision be quashed.
The Punjab and Haryana high court bench of justice Arun Palli has issued notice to the government, including the secretary, department of home affairs, and additional chief secretary, home, seeking their response by July 30. Randhawa, a promotee officer, retired on August 31, 2013, but was given first extension up to August 31, 2014. Later, he was granted another extension up to August 31, 2015.
However, in April this year, he was informed that the extension was being withdrawn.
Randhawa was the forefront of the fight against terrorism and two complaints were filed against the petitioner during that time.
Two FIRs registered
On the basis of these complaints, two FIRs were registered by the CBI and during the pendency of an FIR, he was appointed SSP in 2006.
A chargesheet was submitted by CBI without getting the necessary approval from the competent authority due to which the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings in these FIRs, the petitioner has submitted.

{{/usCountry}}However, due to the instructions of the government, his extension was withdrawn on the grounds that criminal cases against him were pending and charges have been framed in these cases against him.
His case did not fall in the purview of these instructions as it was instructed that the officer against whom sanction was given by the government would not get the extension, he has submitted, adding that in his case sanction has not been given from the government to prosecute him.
