The police have arrested a father-son duo for allegedly beating up the staff on duty at an examination centre in Government High School, Bhangali Kalan village, in the district on Thursday.
Those arrested have been identified as Pran Nath and his son, Vikas. The two along with 10 others were booked under Sections 186, 188, 353, 332, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC and the Arms Act.
After a case was registered at the Majitha police station on the complaint of examination centre superintendent Pushpinder Kumar and his colleagues, the Amritsar rural police are on the lookout for those who assisted the father-son duo in attacking the examination staff.
Officiating SSP Manmohan Singh on Friday said Pushpinder Kumar was attacked by Pran Nath, his son and others who were accompanying them inside the examination centre. Two of the attackers were reportedly armed with a pistol and a .315 bore rifle. When the centre superintendent's colleagues came to his rescue, the latter, too, were heckled and pushed around.
The SSP added that Vikas was reportedly caught by the staff of duty while trying to sneak in to the exam centre with chits to help his sister, Sophia, who was appearing in the Class-12 computer science paper. The accused entered into a verbal dual with the examination staff and threatened them with dire consequences.

They slipped away after beating up the centre superintendent. The police rushed the spot on receipt of information and took the suspects, Vikas and his father, in custody late in the night.
The SSP added that all the accused besides being booked under the Arms Act were also charged with trespassing into an examination centre, unlawful assembly, physical intimidation and hindering the staff from performing their official duties.
The father-son duo, who is reportedly politically well-connected, also tried to pressurise the police from registering a case. A Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader also contacted the school staff reportedly and told them not to pursue the police case.
Initially, the staff members refused to budge but later some of them agreed to a compromise. The police, however, said the case will stand.
