Ferozepur road traders flay MC decision to lift vehicles

On the orders of Punjab and Haryana high court, traffic police and MC have been lifting and issuing vehicles that are parked in service lanes. However, vehicles parked in parking zones, located in between service lanes and main road, are also being allegedly lifted on Ferozepur road.

Ferozepur road shopkeepers have six associations for different areas and more than 700 small and big shops. The shopkeepers allege that the decision had resulted in loss to their business and would ruin them if the lifting of vehicles of the customers from parking zones was not stopped.

Kamal Puri, a shopkeeper, said the shopkeepers were facing a lot of problems, as the customers would not visit the area if their vehicles were lifted.

“It has become a routine that traffic officials and MC were lifting vehicles and deflating tyres. Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered that no vehicles should be allowed to be parked in the service lanes, but cars are also being lifted from parking zones adjoining the service lanes,” claimed Puri.

Another shopkeeper Khem Singh said it was the responsibility of the authorities to provide parking space to visitors.

“No car can be parked on Ferozepur road from Jagraon Bridge to Sidhwan Canal if the present system is followed. Then all shopkeepers would have to shut down their establishments and go somewhere else,” said Singh.
