The casual approach of the health department towards the health issues came to the fore when deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal issued showcause notice to two senior medical officers (SMOs) for surfing internet during a meeting convened on Thursday to discuss spurt in dengue cases in the district.
As the deputy commissioner was taking the details of the denugue cases, two senior officers were busy checking 'share market' status and e-mails on their respective mobile phones.
A cameraman of a local TV channel captured the doctors surfing internet and showed the same to the deputy commissioner , who immediately called both of them and issued showcause notices to them.
"It is true that the doctors concerned have been issued showcause notices. However , the doctors stated that they were trying to get the details for the report on dengue from their respective areas, which they should have procured before coming for the meeting,"said the DC.
Meanwhile, civil surgeon Dr Subhash Batta informed the DC that the anti-larvae wing of the health department in their recent inspections had found the mosquito larvae in a large number of hospitals and government offices. Terming it as a sorry state of affairs, the DC said that action would be initiated against the offices where the mosquito larvae would be found.
The DC also called upon all the officials from various government departments, including the district education officers, block development and panchayat officers and doctors to work in close coordination so as to prevent further spread of dengue.
